Biography
I work as a university teacher in journalism studies, aiming to teach young journalists a future-oriented, responsible, and pluralistic approach to journalism practice. My research interests revolve around the same themes. I am currently working on my doctoral dissertation on pluralism in journalism (at Tampere University). Within and alongside my doctoral work, I have participated in the projects The News Source Diversity Meter: Measuring and Developing Diveristy in Journalism (2021–2023), Sustainable Journalism (2023–2025), and The Democratic Epistemic Capacities in the Age of Algorithms / DECA (2023), as well as conducted the Media Pluralism Monitor study for Finland on behalf of the European University Institute (since 2023). I have also developed expertise in communications and media policy through informal collaboration within a media policy research group and its joint projects.
As a university teacher, I am primarily responsible for teaching in the areas of audio journalism and media professionalism. I strive to follow a teaching approach grounded in critical reflection, where learning builds on awareness of one’s own starting points and the reinterpretation of experience and knowledge. This approach emphasizes dialogical interaction in teaching. I aim to support students’ growth as human beings, not only as professionals, and to develop teaching and curricula that respond to the demands of the emerging AI era.
