Biography
My work includes teaching (basic, subject and advanced studies in Education), supervision of M.A and PhD students, administrative tasks (e.g., member on university collegium, scientific editor of the Phd thesis series, vice-member of the Faculty council), and research (see Research interests).
Research interests
My research interests include computer-supported collaborative learning and argumentation, collaborative writing, academic source-based writing, and digital literacy. During past years I have contributed to these research themes through projects funded by the Academy of Finland (COALITION, ARONI) and European Commission (SCALE). I have also a lot of experience using quasi-experimental research designs in educational research settings. My most recent project (ARONI, a research consortium between Universities of Tampere, Helsinki and Jyväskylä) developed instruments to assess students’ online argumentative inquiry skills, developed methods for teaching internet reading and tested these contributions’ effectiveness through a quasi-experimental intervention.
