Biography

Muhammad Sufyan is a post-doctoral researcher at the strategy and entrepreneurship research group of Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics. Before joining Jyväskylä, Sufyan worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Turku School of Economics, University of Turku, from where he also did his Ph. D. and Masters in International Business in 2021 and 2013, respectively. Sufyan is also Affiliated as a visiting researcher to the external enablers research group Jönköping International Business School (JIBS), Jönköping University, Sweden.

Research-wise, Sufyan focuses on new venture creation in different forms of entrepreneurial firms, with a special emphasis on digital ventures. He is currently working on projects related to artificial intelligence in entrepreneurship and transnational digital enterprises. Nevertheless, his expertise extends beyond entrepreneurship, which is evident from his publications on interdisciplinary topics related to mergers and acquisitions, stress among doctoral researchers, and implications of digital transformation (eg, remote work and digital platforms) for different firms.

Sufyan's research has appeared in the Journal of Business Research, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Review of Entrepreneurship, and the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. He also received the best reviewer award from the Academy of Management Annual Conference 2019.

In addition to his research accomplishments, Sufyan is a seasoned educator, having taught courses in strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation at several universities. He was also a co-teacher for international innovation management and research methods courses at the Turku School of Economics. He has also served as visiting lecturer at Åbo Akademi University on topics related to skilled migrant entrepreneurs in the high-tech industry.
