I am a postdoctoral researcher working at the intersection of cultural policy, museum studies, and human-animal studies. My research examines nuanced societal challenges and emotional responses related to ecological-cultural sustainability and multispecies relationships, especially in the context of art and cultural institutions. Currently, I conduct my postdoctoral research in the project Excluded from Cultural Policy: Public Power as an Underminer of Cultural Bridges in Finland (Ponte), funded by the Kone Foundation. My previous work experience in the cultural sector--primarily within contemporary art--inspires my research, and I continue to work as an art curator alongside my academic career.
A radical shift toward sustainable culture demands undoing anthropocentric worldviews and maintaining the capacity to engage with complex questions and difficult feelings. My postdoctoral research explores theorethical and practical applications of the transformative potential of art, cultural institutions and naturecultural heritage in this work. By examining the mechanisms through which more-than-human agencies are concealed and distanced in society, I focus on how museums and other cultural actors can actas "killjoys" to normative anthropocentrism and foster alternative modes of multispecies coexistence. Furthermore, my research maps, analyses and envisions cultural policies that can support museums in this endeavour.
