I am a doctoral researcher in German language and culture. In my dissertation, I examine visual political communication and the intersection of gender concepts with politics. My expertise lies in the German language, critical discourse analysis, and multimodal analysis. In my bachelor’s thesis, I analyzed election posters of the monarchist DNVP during the Weimar Republic. In my master’s thesis, I examined conceptions of womanhood in the election campaigns of the DDP, SPD, and Zentrum in the 1919 elections, which took place shortly after the introduction of women’s suffrage.
In my cumulative dissertation, I analyze Instagram posts from 2025 by the far-right, right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. More specifically, I examine how the party portrays women’s bodies through images and text in various political contexts. I approach this research topic by examining the meanings, emotions, and associations of AI-generated images of women’s bodies in political communication.
