National Competency Framework for Career Professionals

This project identified the competences required for delivering guidance services in a variety of contexts. As a part of the project, National Competency Framework for Career Professional was developed in a co-creation process involving hundreds of career professionals.

Project description

Guidance competency refers to the knowledge, skills, competences and attitudes required to undertake lifelong guidance roles and tasks in whichever setting career guidance is provided (ELPGN, 2015).

National competency descriptions for career professionals spell out the professional skills and ethical principles required for delivering high-quality guidance services regardless of the context in which they are provided. The descriptions also serve as a basis for examining the existing training provision and identifying possible gaps in it as well as for developing basic training and continuing professional development in the field.

The project was a part of a development project on lifelong guidance co-ordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, and the Development and Administrative Services Centre (KEHA Centre) and it was implemented by the Finnish Institute for Educational Research.
