Project description

SchoolTrace project focuses on transition to school taking into account also the previous histories between children. We investigate the change from 'being a preschooler' to 'becoming a schoolchild', children’s actions, peer relations, and changing spaces as well as working environments. These also include the teacher’s actions.

Data collection is conducted in five schools by following especially one first-year class/school and after school activities, in which other classes also participate (about 20 children/school). Data are collected by following the classes during the first year in school (about 15 days). The study also includes interviews with teachers, guardians and children at school.

Some of the children have a shared history from their years in early childhood education and care, and this will also be included in the study. Data from Trace in ECEC project 2019–2024, (Research Council of Finland) will be used.
