Project description
The European Union and the Finnish Government aim to make sport more ethically and socially sustainable, for example by making it easier to combine studies and sport (so-called dual careers). Despite this, studies show that many athletes continue to sacrifice their academic ambitions in order to further their sporting careers. The combination of demanding studies and sport has been facilitated, but few athletes have sufficient experience or knowledge of the world of work to plan a transition to work either during or after their sporting career. Our research will provide new, evidence-based information for policy makers to inform practical solutions, as well as inform further research to develop socially and ethically sustainable sport. Close cooperation with the different actors involved in dual careers will ensure that research knowledge is translated into practical decisions and measures.
You can find information about the project in Finnish on our Converis website.
