Resource and Stress Factors in Parenthood (Vanhemmuuden Voimavara- ja Kuormitustekijät; VoiKu)

The research group studies phenomena related to parenthood and family well-being and interaction in a multi-method and interdisciplinary manner. The research group has developed a method for screening parental burnout(VAU-seula; in English: The Brief Parental Burnout scale BPBs), which can be used in family and child health clinic work to identify parents and families who are at risk of parental burnout and who, as a preventive measure, would benefit from concrete support actions.

The research group is involved as Finland's representative in an international consortium ”International Investigation of Parental Burnout (IIPB)”, involving more than 50 countries around the world. The consortium is led by professors Isabelle Roskam and Moïra Mikolajczak from the University of Louvain in Belgium. The consortium project enables global comparisons not only of the occurrence of parental burnout in different parts of the world, but also of the factors that predispose to burnout in different cultures or, alternatively, promote parental well-being.
