Planetary wellbeing
An equitable green transition requires support from top-level multidisciplinary researchers and skilled experts. The challenges created by the green transition are met with the help of multidisciplinary research and experts. One of the Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences' research core areas, resource wisdom of natural resources, focuses on the bio- and circular economy. The idea is to promote discussion and increase awareness about the sustainable use of natural resources, circular economy, and planetary well-being.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Science is part of the resource wisdom community JYU.Wisdom. JYU.Wisdom is an open and transdisciplinary community whose mission is to excel in the research and education of planetary well-being. JYU.Wisdom contemplates solutions for circular economy, responsibility, and sustainability in the use of natural resources. In JYU.Wisdom, societal interaction and cooperation across faculty borders generates collaborative ways of thinking and action.
The problems and technical solutions are mainly science-based, but simply understanding the issues and finding solutions in principle is not enough; a strong social and societal science input is also needed to bring about global and local societal change.
