In the future, Oluchi Ann Ogudu-Okor sees herself in educational activism, working towards the goal of “quality education for all” and serving as a voice for those experiencing educational inequality. She has also considered a career as a lifelong career advisor, guiding people not only within schools but beyond. Additionally, she plans to pursue a PhD after her studies to lecture students and help them become better educators.

While the future remains unclear, I definitely see myself in educational activism. In a world that is growing fast and in the pursuit of SDG 4 goals, which are “quality education for all,” we need more voices to actually push for this quality education, especially in countries that are still struggling with it. As an education activist one of my goals is to be the voice for those experiencing educational inequality.

I would also want to be a lifelong career advisor. This is to help people not just in the school environment, but also beyond the walls of the school.  I also have a flare for teaching and would want to purse a PhD, as I would also want to be lecturing students to become better educators.

The EDUMA programme opens doors to diverse careers in education for me

The EDUMA programme doesn't just prepare people to be normal educational scientist, it prepares you for a wide range of opportunities. From being a researcher in the field of education, to an edutech specialist, educational leadership and policy-making roles, early childhood specialist, career services, and educator consultant/ trainer.

These are very important roles in education now and the EDUMA programme prepares you to take up these roles as can be observed from some of its alumni.

Thanks to my studies, I now understand education from different perspectives and am preparing to create real change

In support of my career, I have courses like International Education and Policies, Educational Leadership, Global and Sustainable Education, Antiracism in Education, Life Course, Study and Career Guidance, Diversity in Education, Dialogism in Education, Educational Research, Research Methodology, Intercultural Competence and Collaborative Learning and so much more. These courses, together with others, are definitely courses that are preparing me directly for my future in education.

My studies at JYU are currently equipping me with the right skills, the courses I mentioned above together with some important activities like the SDG 4 seminar have really sharpened my critical thinking. They have made me question things, look deeper, and understand education from different perspectives.

With everything we’re experiencing in the world, I can see how these lessons connect to my own career path. They’re shaping the way I want to show up in education. I'm more aware, more intentional, and more prepared to create real change.
