Eligibility criteria
1. Educational background
You must have completed one of the following qualifications:
- Upper secondary education (general or vocational) completed outside Finland that gives eligibility for bachelor’s-level degree studies in the awarding country,
- the Finnish matriculation examination,
- the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma,
- the European Baccalaureate (EB) diploma,
- the Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung (DIA) or Reifeprüfung (RP) diploma in Finland,
- a Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), or
- Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification, further vocational qualification or specialist vocational qualification as set in the Vocational Education Act (531/2017).
You are also eligible to apply if you have been granted one of the following:
- a right to study toward a university degree in Finland,
- a degree by a Finnish higher education institution, or
- a bachelor’s degree or higher by a foreign institution.
If the qualification used to prove eligibility is incomplete at the time of application, you may be admitted on a conditional basis. In this case, you must graduate and submit required documents regarding your educational background so that they are received by the University by the specified deadline. The deadline will be posted on the University’s website before the application period starts.
If you currently hold a study right leading to the Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics at the University of Jyväskylä, you cannot be admitted.
2. English-language proficiency demonstrated as follows:
Each applicant must demonstrate they possess the necessary English language profiency. Please visit the following web page for further information: Bachelor's applicants: How to prove your your English skills (jyu.fi).
We do not grant waivers for the language skill requirement. In case you fail to prove your proficiency in one of the pre-given ways, your application will be rejected.
First-time applicants are applicants who do not hold a higher education qualification or a higher education study place in Finland. You can read more about quotas for first-time applicants here.
Admissions procedure
Admission group 1: certificate-based admission
First, you must submit your application on Studyinfo along with the necessary attachments by the given deadlines. If your application is deemed eligible, it will be evaluated according to the criteria listed below. Ineligible applications will not be processed further after they have been found not to meet the eligibility criteria/documentary requirements.
You are eligible to apply in admission group 1 if you have completed or will complete during spring 2026 one of the following qualifications:
- Finnish matriculation examination
- International Baccalaureate (IB) in or outside Finland
- European Baccalaureate (EB) in or outside Finland
- Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung (DIA) or Reifeprüfung (RP) in Finland.
In admission group 1, admission is based on the grades obtained from of these qualifications.
The threshold criteria is a passing grade from mathematics (basic or advanced syllabus) from one of the above-mentioned degrees.
You can score points for up to five subjects, which are:
- mother tongue
- mathematics (advanced or basic syllabus)
- the three subjects for which the applicant receives the highest points
The maximum score is 149,9.
Points are calculated according to the national scoring guidelines.
For applicants who finish their IB or EB degree in spring 2026, the points are calculated based on predicted grades. If an applicant is accepted based on predicted grades, the selection is conditional until the applicant submits an official certificate of the final grades to University of Jyväskylä. If the points calculated based on the final grades are lower than the points calculated based on the predicted grades, the admission offer may be cancelled.
If two or more applicants score the same number of total points, their order shall be determined based on:
- Certificate points in mother tongue and literature
- Certificate points for mathematics
- Certificate points for another subject giving the applicant the highest score
- Certificate points for another subject giving the applicant the second highest score
If two or more applicants are still tied for the last study place, all of them will be accepted.
Admission group 2: SAT/ACT admission
First, you must submit your application on Studyinfo along with the necessary attachments by the given deadlines. Ineligible applications will not be processed further after they have been found not to meet the eligibility criteria/documentary requirements.
In Admission Group 2, admission is based on SAT and ACT results. 10 % of the study places are reserved for this admission group.
In Admission Group 2 only applicants who have completed or will complete in spring 2026 some of the following degrees may be admitted: a Finnish matriculation examination and Finnish upper secondary school or the equivalent curriculum, the European Baccalaureate (EB) Programme, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, or the Reifeprüfung (RP) or Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) and the upper secondary school of the equivalent curriculum.
SAT test results:
The SAT test cannot have been completed more than 5 years prior to the end of the application period.
To be considered for admission based on an SAT test result, you must have achieved the minimum combined score of 1100 in the following sections: Evidence-based Reading and Writing, and Mathematics. If you have completed multiple tests and the results are valid, the test result in favour of the applicant will be considered. As there is a limited amount of study places available, achieving a minimum score does not automatically result in getting admitted.
Applicants are ranked according to their combined scores, and the highest-scoring applicants are admitted in accordance with the available study places. In case two or more applicants share the same combined score, all of them will be admitted.
ACT test results:
The ACT test cannot have been completed more than 5 years prior to the end of the application period.
To be considered for admission based on an ACT test result, you must have achieved the minimum total score of 22. If you have completed multiple tests and the results are valid, the test result in favour of the applicant will be considered. As there is a limited amount of study places available, achieving a minimum score does not automatically result in getting admitted.
Applicants are ranked according to their total scores, and the highest-scoring applicants are admitted in accordance with the available study places. In case two or more applicants share the same total score, all of them will be admitted.

Admission group 3: SAT/ACT admission
First, you must submit your application on Studyinfo along with the necessary attachments by the given deadlines. Ineligible applications will not be processed further after they have been found not to meet the eligibility criteria/documentary requirements.
In Admission Group 3, admission is based on SAT results. 50 % of the study places are reserved for this admission group.
If you have not completed and will not complete by the given deadline Finnish matriculation examination, an IB or EB diploma, or a DIA or RP diploma in Finland, you must apply in admission group 3.
If you have completed one of the aforementioned qualifications and you want to apply based on an SAT or ACT test result, you are not eligible to apply in admission group 3, but your application will be processd in admission group 2.
