Pedagogical Intermediate Studies in Adult Education

Are you interested in adult education? If you are interested in teaching adults but have not yet completed pedagogical studies, this qualification training is for you. JYU offers intermediate level pedagogical studies for adult education. The application period is from 1 to 15 April 2026.

Specialise in adult education

The Pedagogical Intermediate Studies in Adult Education is a 35-ECTS study module which gives you expertise and qualification in teaching adults. The entirety of Pedagogical Studies in Adult Education (60 ECTS credits) is made up of Basic Studies in Education or Adult Education (25 ECTS credits) as well as the Pedagogical Intermediate Studies in Adult Education (35 ECTS credits) to be studied within this traning. 

Applicants are thus required to have completed the 25-ECTS Basic Studies in Education and Adult Education, or corresponding studies detailed in the call for applications, as well as the intermediate studies in their main subject.

The application period is in early April. The Pedagogical Intermediate Studies in Adult Education are completed over the course of one academic year. Completion of the studies requires attendance in Jyväskylä. The main language in Quotas 1-4 is Finnish, and in Quotas 5-6 it is English. All students study together. 

What is studying like?

The studies consist of five thematic sections, proceeding from individual to communal and societal aspects of adult education.

The objective of the studies is to develop an autonomous and flexible adult educator who is able to operate in today’s rapidly changing world, in a variety of interpersonal situations. The studies are structured to develop the student's pedagogical thinking and actions. Within the training, students not only receive a qualification, but also benefit from learning to evaluate their own craft as an educator, teacher or counsellor with a critical eye.

You can apply for the studies by filling in an online form on the Studyinfo portal. The application period is from 1 to 15 April 2026. Eligible candidates for the English-language intake will be invited to an entrance examination.
