The required application attachments are listed below. Some attachments may be optional or apply only to some applicant groups. If a document is not listed below, it will not be considered.
If a mandatory attachment is not submitted following the instructions, your application will be deemed ineligible and not processed further. More detailed instructions will be published on the University’s website before the application period begins. The instructions may change between application rounds, and you must make sure to comply with the requirements for the correct round.
Note: If you use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to aid any portions of your application, you must indicate which tasks you used AI for, how you prompted the AI for assistance, and which AI model(s) you used (e.g. GPT-5, Gemini 2.5). Claiming AI-generated content as your own without acknowledging it is considered plagiarism. If we detect that a supporting document or assignment has been generated by AI, either wholly or in part, without proper acknowledgement, it will be given zero points.
1. Copy of an official transcript of records of a higher education degree
A transcript of records (mark sheet) is a list of courses and study attainments a student has completed at an educational institution.
2. Official translation of the transcript into English, Finnish, or Swedish (if needed)
If the official transcript of records is issued in a language other than English, Finnish, or Swedish, an official translation into one of these languages is required in addition to the original language version.
3. Copy of a degree certificate of a higher education degree
If the degree used for proving your eligibility is unfinished at the time of application, a degree certificate is not required in the application phase.
4. Official translation of the degree certificate into English, Finnish, or Swedish (if needed)
If the degree certificate is issued in a language other than English, Finnish, or Swedish, an official translation into one of these languages is required in addition to the original language version.
5. Proof of English language proficiency
The required document is either a language test certificate or an educational document, depending on how you prove your language skills. See Eligibility for the approved methods.

6. Copy of a valid passport (if needed)
A copy of the identification page(s) of a valid passport with the applicant’s name, date of birth, and nationality. If you do not hold a valid passport, another official identification document (such as an identity card or driver’s license) stating the same information is accepted.
Please note: As a part of the application process, you are required to submit a video assignment and may be invited to an interview. At the beginning of the recording and interview, you must prove your identity by presenting your passport, official photo ID card, or driver’s license to the camera. An expired document is accepted if it expired less than a year ago from the start date of the application period. If you do not identify yourself in this manner, your application will be deemed ineligible.
If you are a Finnish citizen: You are not required to upload a separate identification document to your application form. However, you must prove your identity at the start of the recording and interview as described above.
7. Copy of a residence permit card (if applicable)
A copy of both sides of the residence permit card. The document is required only if you, the applicant, hold one of the following: a valid residence permit in Finland of type A (that is not based on studies), P, P-EU, EU Blue Card, or a certificate of the permanent right of residence of a UK citizen in Finland, or residence card for a family member of an EU or UK citizen residing in Finland.
8. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
A CV is a document that provides information about your educational background, work history, international experience, skills and competencies – especially those most applicable to the programme. The CV must be written in English and should not be longer than 2 pages (A4 size). It must clearly highlight the relevant information for assessing your previous degrees and studies, international experience, research experience, and relevant work experience as detailed above (see Phase 1). Please submit the document as a .PDF file and include your last name in the filename (e.g., Smith_PsyAct CV.pdf).
9. Research proposal
Write an original plan for research that you might want to conduct for a master's thesis in this programme.
The plan should begin with an introduction that specifies a problem you might like to investigate, indicates why researching it is important and spells out what you might aim/expect to find (i.e., research aims or hypotheses). The introduction should include a literature review that defines the most important concepts in the proposal and provides support for your indicated research aims or hypotheses.
After the introduction, describe the research methods you could potentially use to investigate your hypotheses. The proposed research must be aligned with the core themes of the Psychology of Physical Activity, Health and Well-being master’s programme.
The research plan must not be longer than 4 (A4 size) pages, including references. It must be written in English using 1.5-line spacing and size 12 Times New Roman font. Please submit your plan as a PDF file and include your last name in the filename (e.g., Lastname_PsyAct Research Proposal.pdf).
10. Applicant introduction and motivation video
Record a single video in which you provide clear and concise answers to the following questions in English:
- How have your previous studies and experiences prepared you to be a top student in this master's programme?
- Which aspects of this programme are most exciting or interesting to you and why?
- What knowledge and skills do you expect to gain from this programme, and how will these help you fulfil your career ambitions after graduation?
- What are the possible implications of the research you described in your research proposal?
We strongly recommend rehearsing several times before the final recording to ensure your answers are clear and concise and address all four questions.
Technical instructions for the video:
- You must start by showing your photo ID to the camera.
- The maximum length of the video is 3 minutes. If a video is longer than 3 minutes, only the first 3 minutes will be assessed.
- The video file must not exceed 1.0 GB in size.
- The video should be submitted as either .mp4 or .mov file type and include your last name in the filename (e.g., Smith_Motivation.mp4).
- The video must show the applicant speaking, and the applicant must be recognisable.
- Spoken text should be in English and in the applicant’s natural voice, without any overdubbing or AI manipulation.
- Audio quality must be high enough so that the speech of the applicant is comprehensible.
11. Letter of recommendation (optional)
One reference letter from an academic teacher, supervisor or employer, not related to you, who is familiar with your academic, professional and/or personal qualifications. The referee’s contact information must be stated in the letter. If the document is written in a language other than English, Finnish, or Swedish, an official translation of the document to English, as well as a copy of the original document are required.
