University of Jyväskylä Investments

Driving research innovation, sustainable growth and societal benefit.

The University of Jyväskylä manages its endowment to grow the real value of its assets and secure long-term financial stability. Our investments span multiple asset classes and are guided by financial discipline, responsible ownership, and a long-term perspective.

Within the portfolio, we are among Finland’s leading investors in deep technology and early-stage companies, with substantial commitments to venture capital funds. These investments support innovation, economic opportunity and sustainable growth, while contributing to the University’s mission and societal impact.

The endowment targets an average annual return of more than 10% over the long term, consistent with the University’s investment horizon and risk tolerance.

Investment strategy

We are a multi-asset investor pursuing our objectives through diversified portfolios designed to balance long-term growth, resilience, and responsible risk-taking. Asset allocation, manager selection, and risk management are guided by the University’s long-term investment horizon and return objectives.

Venture capital and deep technology investments form a meaningful part of the portfolio, complementing public markets and other private asset classes. This structure enables both attractive long-term returns and measurable impact aligned with the University’s mission.

Governance and oversight

The University’s Investment Committee brings together a broad range of investment and business leadership experience to oversee the University’s endowment. As a multidisciplinary body, the Committee combines extensive expertise in alternative investments with broader strategic and commercial insight, ensuring informed and balanced capital allocation decisions.
