The learning environment in Soihtu offers playful approaches to the exploration of the abstract by means of art and mathematics. Solve tangram puzzles, build sculptures, create a work of your own to the gallery room, or outline geometrical shapes! The learning environment is intended for everybody studying the world with a curious and open mind. The geometrical shapes and abstract elements of Ernst Mether-Borgström’s (1917–1996) works on display offer inspiration for learning.

The Ajatusviivoja learning material (in Finnish) is based on these works and is designed to inspire people to environmental observation and creative working as well as to provide methods for the implementation of multidisciplinary learning modules. The learning material includes three sets of workshops designed for preschoolers, primary school grades 1-3, and grades 4-6. These workshops can be conducted in kindergarten or at school. Inspiration for your work can be found in the Ajatusviivoja workshop at the Exhibition Centre Soihtu. Pre-school and school groups can book a time for a free workshop at the Soihdu Exhibition Centre's customer service desk. The workshop will last approximately one hour.

The learning environment and learning material are part of JYUniorit - university activities for children and youth. The activities of Children´s University JYUniorit are carried out by the Jyväskylä University Museum, Summer University of Jyväskylä, and the Central Finland LUMA Centre in collaboration with university faculties and departments.
