SysMus is a series of international conferences organised annually by postgraduate students and early career researchers in the broad field of systematic musicology. This year's event will be hosted by the University of Jyväskylä in Jyväskylä, Finland, from June 8th to 10th, 2024. We will feature three keynote sessions by invited speakers, as well as student talks and posters. SysMus is dedicated to representing the diversity of topics and methods that are summarised under the umbrella term ‘systematic musicology’. Presentations may be on any of the following topics: Music perception, music cognition, music therapy, music and well-being, music modelling, music information retrieval, music sociology, music education, music technology, music and culture, music philosophy, music theory and analysis, composition, and performance.

There are also some related events happening in Jyväskylä and Helsinki either side of this conference, and you can find links to those events below.

Instructions for presenters

Spoken

Presentations will be 10 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions. In-person presenters should email their presentations to sysmus@jyu.fi by the 6th of June. Please ensure your slides are in Powerpoint (.pptx) or PDF format. Talks will be arranged into blocks of three, grouped together by theme (and timezone, in the case of online presenters).

Online presenters should inform us about which timezone they will be in during the conference. We will be using gather.town for online presentations and presenters will be given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with that platform before the conference. Please ensure you have a working microphone and webcam, and that you are able to share your screen to present slides

Poster

All posters will be presented virtually on gather.town. You will be asked to stand by your poster in the virtual poster room in gather.town for discussion. During this session, be prepared to talk people through your poster or to give them an 'elevator pitch' about your research. Please send your poster as an image file (e.g. .jpeg) to sysmus@jyu.fi by the 6th of June, to be uploaded to the platform. Poster images should have a resolution of at least 1080x566.
