Establishing and managing a lifestyle venture in the hospitality industry: A Romanian perspective
Open lecture: Eugen Popescu, PhD, from University of Lucian Blaga Sibiu is visiting University of Jyväskylä and giving a lecture about his career and entrepreneurship. The lecture is open for all, but can be used as one of the compulsory lectures in Uras001 Yrittäjyystarinoita, or URAM003 Creating Careers.
"I will provide a brief introduction about the Romanian economy and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The lecture will highlight the journey of starting and running a hospitality business, exploring both its obstacles and successes. By sharing my personal journey and insights, I intend to offer students an authentic understanding of the intricacies involved in family entrepreneurship in the Transylvanian context."
Eugen is an educator and entrepreneur, currently serving as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. He began his academic journey at the same institution, earning a Bachelor's degree in Commerce & Tourism in 2006, a Master's degree in Marketing & Management Strategies in 2008, and a Ph.D. in Tourism Entrepreneurship in 2015.
Eugen expanded his academic horizons by studying marketing at the "Gabriele D'Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy, and further enhanced his expertise as a visiting scholar at the Ain Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of Rochester, USA. His commitment to fostering entrepreneurship is evident through his role as an guest lecturer at partner universities in the Netherlands, Ukraine, the Philippines, Italy, and Portugal.
Eugen is a founding member of EduHub, the university's student entrepreneurship center, and is currently coordinating its activities. He passionately trains and mentors students in various start-up programs. Beyond academia, Eugen runs a small family-owned hospitality business, embodying his entrepreneurial spirit.
Eugen’s multifaceted interests include entrepreneurship, innovation, travel & tourism, and e-commerce. His diverse background and experience make him a versatile and engaging educator, trainer, and business professional.
