Library trainings and courses for students

Your studies include information seeking classes:

In many disciplines, an information seeking workshop is included in the bachelor's and master's theses seminars.
Finnish speaking students usually have an introduction to information seeking already in their first year as part of Movi's Akateemiset tekstitaidot/Academic Literacies course, where the library teacher will visit.
International students might have other information seeking classes arranged for them.

To learn the basics of academic information seeking, participate in LIBESIS Systematic Information Seeking online course. For Finnish students LIB1THP Tiedonhankinnan perusteet.

We recommend the LIBESIS course for all international students.
Especially if you are participating in a master's programme at JYU, it's important that you have academic information seeking skills relevant to studying at JYU.
Some master's programmes have LIBESIS as a compulsory course. You can see your degree requirements in the JYU study guide.

LIBEDATA Introduction to Research Data Management online course guides you in ethical and responsible handling of your research data in your thesis. This includes handling personal data and data security. For Finnish students: LIB1DATA Aineistonhallinnan perusteet.

Training on Reference manager Zotero

Zotero training and guides

Learn to use Zotero, a reference management software, that allows you to create a personal database of references and generate in-text citations and bibliographies in a variety of styles.

Instructions for Zotero are in the Library Tutorial.

In the workshop you’ll get guidance on

how to save your sources with Zotero
how to use Zotero and Microsoft Word to create in-text citations and bibliographies in various styles.
