The Orientation Programme, organized jointly by the University of Jyväskylä and the Student Union, is designed to help new international students settle in and get to know each other, the University and the city of Jyväskylä. It is our way to say “Welcome”.

Orientation programme, autumn semester 2026

The orientation programme is designed to help new international students at the beginning of their studies and to get to know each other and the university. All new international students should take part in the programme, as it gives valuable information on studying at the University of Jyväskylä.

During the autumn semester 2026, the orientation programmes will take place as follows:

In addition to the joint orientation sessions, make sure to attend the orientation programme organised by your faculty/degree programme. To check the programme of your faculty/degree programme, please select your degree programme in the drop-down menu below ("Further Instructions").

The locations for each session are marked in the programme. You can find the exact locations from the University campus below. Please note that changes to the programme are still possible.

Library tours 
Library tours for new international degree students will be held in the Lähde Library, from 25.8. to 4.9.2026. Tutors can book the most suitable time for their group from the booking calendar. The tour starts at the main lobby of the Lähde and lasts about half an hour.

New Students' Evening

New students are invited to the New Students’ Evening, which is organised as part of the opening festivities. During the event, the Rector and all Vice Rectors personally welcome each new student with a handshake.

The whole university will celebrate the beginning of the academic year.

DVV (Digital and Population Data Services Agency) pop-up in C building lobby

DVV staff will visit the campus a few dates to be announced later, so you do not need to book any separate appointments to the DVV office if you can visit on those days. At the pop-up you will be able to apply for a Personal Finnish Identity Code (if you do not have one already), and apply for municipality of residence in Jyväskylä. Information about the exact time and place of the pop-up to be shared later via email.
