Study right for alumni studies
According to §11 of the degree regulations of the University of Jyväskylä, a student can register for alumni studies after completing the degree to which their study right have entitled them. After graduation, the student may conduct studies for two full academic years following the graduation in accordance with the study rights they had at the time their degree was awarded. The alumni study right also applies to all JYU Open University studies, but not EduJyväskylä studies. Alumni studies are free of charge.
The alumni study right offers students the opportunity to develop and update their knowledge and skills, expand their professional network and improve their employment prospects even after graduation. It also allows students to deepen their knowledge in areas of personal interest.
Alumni students cannot join the Student Union and are not entitled to student benefits.
Registering for alumni studies
Register for the alumni study right after graduation by filling in the Registration for alumni studies form on HelpJYU. You only need to register once, not for every academic year separately.

After your study right for alumni studies has been activated, you may register for courses in Sisu. See the link below for instructions.
Alumni students who have graduated on 1 August 2023 or after can also register for all JYU Open University courses free of charge during the validity of their alumni study right. Please see the instructions below before signing up for open university courses.
Validity of the alumni study right
Starting from 1 August 2023, the study right for alumni studies is valid until the end of the second academic year that follows your graduation. For students graduating during the academic year 2025-2026, your alumni study right will be valid until 31 July 2028. If you have graduated before 1 August 2023, your alumni study right is valid for one full academic year after graduation.
Your university user account and student email remain active during the validity of your alumni study right.
After the alumni study right has expired, you can study at the open university, with a separate study right or in continuing education by paying the study fee.
