General guidelines
Guidelines common to all students for submitting the thesis.
The bachelor’s thesis is always checked using plagiarism detection software.
Bachelor’s theses are submitted in the Vasara system
(process is online 23.04.2026)
All students of the University of Jyväskylä submit their bachelor’s thesis via the Vasara system. Within this system, the instructor evaluates the thesis, and the thesis is automatically transferred to the JYX digital archive. Copyright remains with the author of the thesis.

Submit your bachelor's thesis in Vasara
Before submitting your thesis to the Vasara system, make sure to take care of the following:
- After evaluation, no further changes can be made to the thesis, and the evaluation thesis will be archived.
- Discuss with your supervisor and ensure that your work is ready for submission.
- Ensure that your work undergoes the Turnitin check according to the instructions provided by your supervisor, before you submit your thesis in Vasara.
- You must be registered for the thesis course implementations in Sisu. The course may be called, for example Subject Studies Seminar and Thesis, Bachelor's Thesis, or Thesis.
- Your work should be saved in a PDF/A format that is accessible. Please read the instructions for saving your thesis in PDF/A format.
- If your thesis is done in collaboration, one of the authors submits the thesis and provides, upon submission, the username of the other author (username@jyu.fi or username@student.jyu.fi). Subsequently, the other author receives an email with a link through which they can approve the submission of the thesis.
- If the thesis is done as a pair work, the student returning the thesis to Vasara first selects the openness of the work and the associated licenses. The second student agrees to these while also approving the submission for evaluation. It is advisable for the authors to have a common discussion about this before submission. - If your thesis contains confidential background material, it must be removed from the submitted work before it is returned for evaluation.
- You will receive a notification of the completion of the evaluation report in your email. If needed, update information in Account Self Service.
- The assessed work is automatically sent to the public JYX publication archive.
- The completion date of the thesis is the date on which the work is submitted for assessment.

Kemia
Kandidaatintutkielman ja tutkimusprojektin palautus, arkistointi ja rekisteröinti
Opiskelija voi halutessaan ladata työhönsä laitoksen kandidaatintutkielman kansilehden. Moniviestimestä löydät laitoksen ohjeen kansilehden liittämiseksi kandidaatintutkielmaan (polkuavain kemia).
Tutkielma käy läpi Turnitin-tarkastuksen, joka tehdään Moodlessa Kandidaattitutkielma-alustalla. Ilmoittaudu ensin Sisussa toteutukselle KEMA260, niin pääset Moodlessa työsi palauttamaan tarkastukseen. Turnitin-tarkastuksessa tutkitaan tutkielman tekstin alkuperäisyyttä ja vertaillaan mahdollisia samankaltaisuuksia muihin akateemisiin dokumentteihin. Opiskelija saa Turnitinista myös tukea akateemisen kirjoittamisen oppimisprosessiin.
Tutkimusprojektin ja tutkielman arvostelee (hyväksytty-hylätty) työn ohjaaja. Kun tutkielma on hyväksytty, ohjaaja ilmoittaa hyväksynnästä koulutussuunnittelijalle, jonka jälkeen tutkielmasta (sekä tutkimusprojektista) rekisteröidään suoritusmerkinnät.
Hyväksynnän jälkeen opiskelija julkaisee tutkielmansa kirjaston sähköisessä tietokannassa eli JYX:ssä yllä olevien ohjeiden mukaisesti.
Fysiikka
Ennen tutkielman jättämistä arvioitavaksi palauta tutkielmasi luonnos ohjaajalle kommentoitavaksi sovitun aikataulun mukaisesti. Ohjaaja palauttaa tekstin sinulle korjattavaksi ja palautettavaksi.
Palauta lopullinen versio tutkielmastasi arvioitavaksi opintojakson FYSA2090 Moodle-työtilassa.
Arvioinnissa kiinnitetään huomiota viiteen perusseikkaan:
- Aiheen rajaus ja kehittely
- Aiheeseen perehtyneisyys ja kirjallisuuden käyttö
- Jäsentely ja päätelmien tekeminen
- Esityksen selkeys ja kieliasu
- Opinnäytetyön työprosessi

Palauta lopullinen versio tutkielmastasi arvioitavaksi ja plagiaatintunnistukseen opintojakson Moodle-työtilassa. Muistathan ilmoittaa palautuksesta tutkielmasi ohjaajalle.
Psykologia
Tutkielman palauttaminen
Kun ohjaaja toteaa tutkielman vastaavan hyväksytyn psykologian kandidaatintutkielman kriteerejä, opiskelijat palauttavat tutkielmansa opintojakson PSYA210 Moodlen palautuslaatikkoon, jossa se menee Turnitin-tarkastukseen. Opiskelijoiden tulee ilmoittaa palautuksesta ohjaajalle sähköpostilla. Näin ohjaaja varmistaa vielä, että tutkielman Turnitin-tarkistus on kunnossa. Kun näin on, hän vie tutkielman arvioinnin opintorekisteriin eli Sisuun. Jos näin ei tapahtuisi, opiskelijan on hyvä muistuttaa viipymättä asiasta ohjaajaa.
Kandidaatintutkielman palauttamisen jälkeen voit itse julkaista opinnäytteesi JYX-julkaisuarkistossa. Löydät tarkemmat ohjeet opinnäytteen julkaisemiseen esimerkiksi Avoin tiede ja tutkimus -sivustolta.
Yhteiskuntatieteet ja filosofia
Tutkielma palautetaan omalle kandityön ohjaajalle.
Bio- ja ympäristötiede
Miten kandidaatintutkielma arvioidaan ja julkaistaan?
- Kandidaatintutkielma arvioidaan arviointi-/palautelomakkeella, B.Sc. Thesis Evaluation, asteikolla hyväksytty/hylätty.
- Tutkielman arvioijat (2 kpl) antavat lisäksi numeerisen arvion ja kirjallisen lausunnon työn eri osa-alueista, mutta suoritus kirjataan opintorekisteriin asteikolla hyväksytty/hylätty.
- Arvioijat voivat edellyttää korjauksia tutkielmaan ennen lopullista hyväksymistä.
- Kandidaatintutkielma julkaistaan laitoksen omassa tietokannassa. Opiskelija voi halutessaan teettää itselleen kandidaatintutkielmastaan kansitetun version.
Sosiaalityö, Jyväskylä ja Kokkola
Tutkielma palautetaan omalle kandityön ohjaajalle. Noudata hänen antamaansa ohjeistusta ajoitusten jne suhteen huomioiden mm. kypsyysnäytteen aikataulun kielentarkastuksen suhteen.
Kandidaatintutkielma on julkinen asiakirja ja se tulee hyväksymisensä jälkeen julkiseksi. Sen säilytysaika on vähintään 10 vuotta (vuoden 2025 alusta lähtien) ja säilytyspaikkana on JYX-julkaisuarkisto. Opiskelija on vastuussa työnsä tallentamisesta JYXiin OSC:n (avoimen tiedon keskuksen) verkkolomakkeella. Ohjeistus ja linkki julkaisemiseen on tämän ohjeen yläpuolella olevassa Jyväskylän yliopiston yleisessä ohjeistuksessa.
VASARA-prosessi laajenee kandityön palauttamiseen kevään 2026 aikana, joten opiskelijan tulee seurata seminaariohjaajan ohjeistusta opinnäytteen palauttamiseen ja julkaisemiseen liittyen.
