Starting your studies and accessing course materials

Info about study platforms and course materials in separate studies.

The study platforms used by the University of Jyväskylä are Moodle, JYU Online Courses, TIM and Digicampus. The study platforms have course pages for most courses, where you can find course materials and instructions.

If your course has a course page on one of the study platforms, you’ll be able to access it when the course starts. You must sign-up for the course first. In addition, if you are a new student at JYU or your JYU user account has been deactivated, you must activate your user account and confirm the email you want to use in your student role via the OMA service.

On most courses, you’ll get access to the course page automatically after signing up for the course and activating your user account. You’ll find the course page on the study platform, such as Moodle. On some courses, the teacher will manually add you to the course page after you sign-up or after the course starts. In these cases, you’ll be able to access the course page by logging into the study platform and searching for the right course page.

Alternatively, the teacher will send you a course key that you can use to self-register to the course page. The teacher will usually contact you via email, so please check that your contact details are up to date in the OMA service before the course starts. You can contact the teacher via email if there are problems.

Depending on the method of study, a course page might not be used. For example, there might not be a course page at all for independent e-Exam courses. Instead, you’ll study the materials independently and take the course exam in the EXAM system. You can always contact the teacher if you have questions about the course content or study materials, however.

The contact information for your course’s teacher(s) is available in the course description in Sisu.
