Critical minerals, the circular economy and the green transition – Register for the FinnMateria 2026 fair
FinnMateria 2026, the leading trade fair for the mining industry and industrial circular economy in the nordic countries, will be held on November 4-5, 2026 at the Jyväskylä Paviljonki (Lutakonaukio 12). The event will bring together companies, researchers, technology experts, and other specialists to discuss the sustainable use of materials, critical raw materials and the future of the circular economy in industry.
Focus on the recycling and recovery of critical minerals
In connection with the fair, the University of Jyväskylä is organizing an international seminar titled “Frontiers in Recycling and Recovery of Critical Minerals” on November 4, 2026 at 10:00-14:30. The seminar will bring together researchers, industry experts and other specialists to discuss the latest solutions for the recycling and recovery of critical minerals. Topics also include significance for the green transition and Europe’s self-sufficiency in raw materials.
- This theme is particularly relevant from the perspective of the green transition. Critical minerals are needed, for example, in the making of batteries, energy technologies and other clean technologies. The seminar will examine how recycling and more efficient material recovery can support sustainable development and strengthen Europe’s self-sufficiency in raw materials, says Director of the Center of Expertise for Circular Economy, Professor of Circular Economy Ari Väisänen from the University of Jyväskylä.
The seminar offers an opportunity to learn about the latest research findings in the field, learn about future material solutions, and discuss trends in the field with researchers and industry experts.
Learn about JYU’s research on the circular economy
The Center of Expertise for Circular Economy (CECE) will have a strong presence at the fair with its own stand. The CECE shows the university’s research and development activities related to circular economy solutions, material recycling and the sustainable use of critical raw materials.
- At the stand, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about current projects, talk with researchers, and learn more about collaboration opportunities between companies and research organizations, explains Väisänen.
Science, industry collaboration and new opportunities
FinnMateria 2026 will expand to cover the entire life cycle of inorganic material. The event showcases the latest technology and provides a platform for industry professionals to meet face-to-face.
- The event also offers students the opportunity to learn about future requirements and career opportunities in the field. It is also providing staff with a chance to follow current developments and build new collaboration networks, says Väisänen.
It is possible to attend the event free of charge by registering upon arrival at the event or in advance using link. You can register for the fair and seminar using CECE’s invitation code YTBKOG.
