JYU's strategy will be updated during 2023
In its December 2022 meeting, the University Board approved the process of updating its strategy. The purpose of the update is to evaluate the implementation of the strategy, identify possible changes in the operating environment and make priority decisions for the coming years. In connection with updating the strategy, there will be an opportunity to examine how our strategy aligns with the expectations and objectives of Finland’s next Government Programme and the Ministry of Education and Culture’s next contract period for higher education and science policy.
"The core of the Wisdom and wellbeing for us all strategy remains relevant," says Rector Keijo Hämäläinen. "Therefore, this process is not about updating the entire strategy, but reviewing the objectives and concrete measures: What have we already achieved? Have we focused on the right areas? What will we concentrate on in the future? These are key issues, which we will tackle together as a community."
Timetable and possibilities for participation
The planning of the strategy update was started as a joint effort during the autumn semester 2022, and amongst others, the Student Union, University Collegium, staff associations and the extended management team have given their views concerning the preparation of the process.
This process starts at the end of January when the university community gets the chance to evaluate how the strategy has been implemented, where it has been successful, and what is still needed. A survey on the subject is published for the members and students. In addition, a discussion event on the same topics is organised in each unit. Later in the spring the University will also invite stakeholders and alumni to a joint event to discuss the future and the strategic choices of the University.
"The voice of the university community is important for this strategy update, and we will also look at the strategic choices of different units," says Head of Internationalization and Higher Education Policy Anna Grönlund. "We need not only your feedback on achieved successes and development needs, but also your views to anticipate changes in the future. We aim at offering the entire community varied participation possibilities, without putting a strain on daily life."
We’ll inform everyone about the progress of the strategy update and about the participation possibilities regularly during the spring.
