Students, current and former members of the university, as well as people outside the university community, are invited to share their memories of the buildings and outdoor areas that the University of Jyväskylä will vacate during this year and the next as part of its facility strategy.

"These buildings are surely associated with many experiences from different decades. Immediate surroundings, such as the Mattilanniemi area of the botanical garden or the yard of the former teacher training school (X-building), have also created meaningful memories for many. We are especially hoping to receive personal recollections from people who have spent time on campus at different stages of life and in various roles — starting from childhood. The form can be filled out multiple times, for example once as a student and once as a local resident," suggests Pirita Frigren, Service Manager at the University Museum.

On Seminaarinmäki, the university's premises no longer include Fennicum, the X building (Proxima), the G building, Ryhtilä, and Puutarhurin talo. On Mattilanniemi, the premises being vacated are MaA, MaD, Kärki, and the applied chemistry premises on Ylistönrinne. The university's need for space has decreased in recent years, particularly due to remote working. The premises being vacated are mainly either underutilized or empty.

The survey created for collecting memories and stories will remain open until the end of 2025. It can be filled out anonymously, under a pseudonym, or with your name.

At the end of 2025, the collected memories will be transferred to the collections of the University of Jyväskylä's Open Science Centre's University Museum. The material will be permanently archived and may be used in the museum’s research, publications, exhibitions, and customer work.

More information and instructions for filling out the form can be found on the survey form.
