The World of Hydrogen exhibition is a window into the future of energy
The World of Hydrogen exhibition opened to the public at the heart of teaching and science education. The exhibition opening was celebrated on Tuesday 20 January 2026, where visitors were able to explore the exhibition and hear several speeches. Director of the Central Finland LUMA Centre Tuomo Äkkinen considered in his opening speech the significance of the exhibition from a broader perspective than just that of a single science exhibition.
- Today, we are not just opening an exhibition about an element, we are opening a window to the future of energy. Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe, and its utilization involves both major challenges and significant opportunities, said director of the Central Finland LUMA Centre Tuomo Äkkinen in his opening speech.
From curious minds to expertise
In its new location, the exhibition is closely linked to daily teaching and research activities. The exhibition supports one of the faculty's key goals, which is to inspire children and young people to take an interest in science and mathematics. The exhibition focuses particularly on the themes of energy, sustainability, and climate.
- Curious and enthusiastic young people, who have the courage to throw themselves into science and mathematics are the key to solving the energy challenges of the future. This exhibition helps to inspire them, said Äkkinen.
Key questions about the energy system available to everyone
The exhibition was donated by the Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof). Dean of the Faculty Timo Sajavaara expressed his gratefulness to the foundation for the exhibition. He highlighted its significance for the faculty's science education and collaboration activities.
- The foundation's work with hydrogen, sustainable energy systems and hydrogen buses happens in our own region. Thanks to the donation, we can offer a concrete and interactive way to learn about one of the key issues in energy systems and increase cooperation with various partners, rejoiced Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Timo Sajavaara from the University of Jyväskylä.
Science for different age – exhibition as part of school visits
The faculty intends to make extensive use of the exhibition in school visits, public events and broader science outreach activities. School groups of all ages, from elementary school to secondary school, are welcome to visit the exhibition. Other programs can also be organized in connection with the visits.
- Shared knowledge multiplies expertise. I hope that people will come to explore and discover the power of hydrogen, encourages Äkkinen.
The World of Hydrogen exhibition is open on 4.2.2026
