Biography

I coordinate the Music & Science Bachelor programme. My teaching is focused in bachelor's seminar, music theory, art music, basics in music research, arts & wellbeing and Music & Science work life courses. All our programme's Bachelor students have study guidance by me, and I supervise and assess bachelor and master's theses in our Music programmes. I supervise some PhD theses.

Research interests

I am interested in the role of music, particularly communal singing, in promoting the everyday well-being of Finns of different ages. In my doctoral dissertation in music education (2022), I examined aged Finns’ memories and experiences related to songs familiar to them from their years in elementary school. Singing together and reminiscing about songs that are familiar from early life provide older adults with resources for everyday life, enhance their participation and sense of agency, and help maintain their identity.

Research interests: Cultural well-being, communal singing, singing experiences, musical memories, music advance directive, the meanings of music and musical experiences, social inclusion, agency, identity, music in care settings, older adults and music, and oral history.
