Biography

I am a theoretical quantum physicist. In spring 2023 I started as a professor in quantum computing at the Faculty of Information Technology. Before that, I have worked at the University of Turku, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen and Research Center for Quantum Information of Slovak Academy of Sciences.

Quantum theory is to me like a grand adventure park, where the amusement and entertainment come from various mathematical structures. For a researcher, quantum theory offers endless wonders and the joy of discovery. I also enjoy teaching quantum information and sharing the beauty of quantum physics with various audiences.

Research interests

In my research I focus on questions connected to quantum information and quantum computation, and I examine them through the lens of theoretical physics and with the tools of modern mathematics. The underlying motivation for my research is the fundamental nature of information and computation and their crossing with physics. Information and computation are concepts that are motivated by their meaning to a human agent, while physics is traditionally thought as being independent of a human observer. Quantum physics challenges the latter paradigma and it also questions information theory as being separate from physics. These conundrums are a fascinating source for novel scientific research, urging to find a better understanding on the intersection of information, computation and quantum physics.
