Biography

I work as a University Researcher at the Faculty of Education and Psychology and the EDUCA Flagship.

I completed my PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Jyväskylä in 2014. Since then, I have worked at the Universities of Jyväskylä, Helsinki, and Turku. I also hold the title of Docent in Language Pedagogy at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki (2020), and in Multimodal analysis of social interaction at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Turku (2026).

I work as the PI in the project Virtual reality as an environment for Finnish language learning (Emil Aaltonen Foundation, 2026-2029). 

Research interests

My research focuses on how technology mediates and supports teaching and learning interactions. I currently investigate topics such as interaction in virtual reality, the use of telepresence robots in hybrid education, language learning with social robots, and artificial intelligence as a conversational partner. Another major focus of my research is second language teaching and learning in a variety of educational and social contexts.
