Project description
Perfectionism in competitive sports – The connection of self-compassion and mental health
This project aims to examine the associations between multidimensional perfectionism, self-compassion, and variables that are linked to psychological distress (shame, dysfunctional psychobiosocial feeling states, and inflexible responding to self-criticism) with Finnish competitive athletes. Furthermore, this dissertation aims to develop screening tools to identify individuals who are at risk of developing problematic mental health symptoms related to harmful perfectionism and to test the feasibility and effectiveness of a compassion-focused intervention with these athletes.
