After completing the Information Systems programme, Kalindunie Kulathunga aims to learn Finnish and build a career in supply chain analytics. Her goal is to combine data analytics skills with process automation and sustainability knowledge to help businesses optimise operations. The courses she selected during her studies have already equipped her with practical tools in data analytics, digital operations, and sustainability—forming a solid foundation for her future career in supply chain automation.

I have few plans in mind for after graduating from the university. Right after graduation, I want to focus on learning the Finnish language. It is essential to learn the language since I am planning to pursue a career in supply chain analytics. I expect to join JYU’s Integra programme, which is also available for alumni. I’m very eager to participate after hearing the success stories of some friends who have completed it.

At the same time, I’ll be busy applying for jobs, updating my LinkedIn profile, developing my personal website, creating Power BI dashboards, and updating my GitHub repository.

Shifting my career toward data analytics

My friends and I come from different backgrounds, and this master’s programme has allowed us all to progress in our chosen fields. For example, I chose this programme to shift my career toward data analytics, while one of my friends is aiming for a career in quality assurance. There are also students focusing on careers in software engineering, software product management, project management, and agile development.

The knowledge from the courses can be directly applied to supply chain automation.

From the beginning of the master’s programme, I selected elective subjects that support my career goals. Since I am focusing on data analytics and supply chain management, I chose courses related to data analytics and visualization. Process automation and sustainability are also popular focus areas in real-world business, so I believe the three core modules, namely the Digital Operations and Management, Digital Services and Innovation, and Digital System Design, Development, and Deployment are timely and relevant. The knowledge from these courses can be directly applied to supply chain automation.

Additionally, I took Sustainable Business Practices to strengthen my understanding of sustainability. Courses such as Project and Change Management, Cybersecurity Psychology, Software Product Management, and Managing the Commercialization Process of Innovation have also helped me build a strong foundation for collaborating with professionals from different fields once I start working in the industry.

Success comes before work only in the dictionary

One of my Sri Lankan friends, a JYU alumna, is someone I truly admire. She had a clear career goal from the beginning and successfully learned Finnish right after graduation.

From her, I learned the importance of planning ahead, strengthening my skills, and continuously working towards my long-term career goals.
