Sustainable worklife and careers

Our research focuses on how working conditions and career paths can be designed to be sustainable, supporting the well-being of both employees and organizations in a changing working life.

We study working life from the perspective of sustainable careers and employee well-being. A humanly sustainable working life supports employees’ skills, resources, and value-based work. We focus on how working conditions and their changes affect meaningfulness of work and well-being in a rapidly changing world of work.

We are interested in the fit between the individual and work at different career stages, as well as experiences of meaningfulness and engagement at work. We also examine how the relationship to work develops and remains meaningful over time, and what factors support well-being and interaction amid changes in working life.

Our research covers employees from different occupational groups across various sectors and organizations, both private and public. Our methods include large-scale surveys and longitudinal studies, qualitative approaches, and interventions that support well-being and sustainable careers.
