Research in cognitive science focuses on the cognitive analysis and planning of the interaction between humans and technology. In research, the concepts, theories and methods of cognitive science are applied to facilitate the planning of smooth and pleasant interaction between humans and technology.
Special areas of interest in researching the field include thinking, intelligence, the mind, and experience in human-technology interaction.
Educational technology and the educational use of technology in research
Educational technology researches and develops technologies used in teaching and learning. The background of research is influenced by concepts of human development and learning, but in connection with information technology, educational technology especially focuses on the technological perspective.
In the University of Jyväskylä, research and development in educational technology is particularly connected to learning analytics. In learning analytics, data is gathered on learners, learning and environments where learning happens, as well as the interaction between them. From this data, representations and interpretations are formed, which help in bettering the understanding of learning methods, learning environments, and the use of educational technologies.

Our research in engineering is based on solving practical problems and includes topics such as machine learning, communications engineering and quantum programming. We are also looking for thesis topics for graduate engineering students at the University of Jyväskylä.
