Library rules
1. General
Jyväskylä University Library is an academic library open to everyone. The library is part of the Open Science Centre.
The library operates in Seminaarinmäki campus in Lähde building (B), and in Aalto Library reading room in the Main building (C), which it operates as a self-service library. Rules for the branches and online services are available on the library’s website.
2. User Rights
Library materials, services, facilities and equipment are available for all. Information about certain restrictions on use and services can be found on the library's website.
Anyone using the library materials, services, facilities, or equipment agrees to follow these rules as well as any other instructions given by library staff. The Director of the Open Science Centre decides on the withdrawal of user rights.
3. Opening Hours
Opening hours and possible changes in them are visible at the service point and on the library’s website. The University’s Facility Services determines the building’s opening hours. The Director of the Open Science Centre determines the service point’s opening hours.
4. Borrowing
Any material taken outside the library or to the storage locations in the library must always be borrowed.
Borrowing, renewing, and reserving materials requires a library card. The library card is personal, and its holder is responsible for all borrowed materials. By obtaining a library card, the cardholder agrees to follow the library's borrowing instructions and rules.
The library has the right to store the customer’s social security number in its customer database. The privacy notice of the database is available on the University website.
The library charges fees for overdue, damaged, or lost materials. A customer is barred from borrowing if they have unpaid fees exceeding the limit stated in the list of service charges. Further collection of payments is handled by the University and a debt collection agency.
5. Departmental Loans from the Legal Deposit Collection
The use of the legal deposit collection is regulated by the statutory obligation to collect and preserve materials. The materials are primarily used only on library premises. Holders of departmental loan rights may also store the materials in their workspaces on University premises.
The library may grant departmental loan rights to University staff, teachers, and researchers for their own teaching and research purposes. The loans are personal, and the materials may not be taken outside University premises.
Old, fragile, rare, or otherwise at-risk materials belonging to the legal deposit collection are not lent outside the library.
Users who have been granted departmental loans right agree to follow the departmental loans instructions.
6. Electronic Resources
Electronic resources may be used on library workstations in accordance with license agreements and copyright legislation. University staff and students also have the right to remote access. Users of electronic resources agree to follow the terms of use for electronic materials.

The library supplies materials not available at Jyväskylä University Library as home loans, reading-room loans, or copies. The library also sends interlibrary loans and copies from its own collections to other libraries. Interlibrary loan services follow the general guidelines agreed upon by interlibrary loan libraries and any instructions given by the sending library.
A fee is charged for interlibrary services according to the service charges. A person with suspended borrowing rights cannot order interlibrary loans.
8. Library Facilities and Equipment
The use of library facilities and equipment follows the University of Jyväskylä regulations, section 4 § Use of Facilities and Equipment.
