Support Finnish nature – Challenge your stakeholders to join

PhD researchers of the Sustainability Transformations doctoral pilot SusTra together with the University of Jyväskylä School of Resource Wisdom (JYU.Wisdom) want to promote the sustainability transformation: we invite companies, organizations, associations, and individuals to donate to our fundraising for the benefit of Finnish nature. Sharing information about the fundraising is also a valuable way to support it.

Stopping biodiversity loss requires actions from all of us. It is our responsibility to ensure that the Finnish nature is preserved for the future. Join us in creating a world that values planetary well-being!

Our biodiversity footprint must be reduced

Every product we purchase has a biodiversity footprint. On top of that, overconsumption is encouraged by Black Friday and other marketing methods throughout the year. Could some of the money we spend - consumption that ends up deteriorating nature - be allocated to protect life on Earth? Can companies and organizations take an even stronger role in supporting nature conservation? The current level of public funding is not sufficient to stop biodiversity loss in Finland.

Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation is the partner of the fundraising campaign

The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation (Luonnonperintösäätiö in Finnish) has been operating since 1995, particularly as a protector of Finland's endangered forests. The sites acquired with donation funds are transferred to the foundation's ownership and permanently protected under nature conservation law.

Join with any amount you wish – every euro is important!

Best regards,
Doctoral researchers - Sustainability Transformations Doctoral Education Pilot

Background

Biodiversity footprint means the harm caused to nature by human activities. Producing each product or service consumes natural resources and causes biodiversity loss1. In 2025, the Overshoot Day of Finns was at the beginning of April—about three months earlier than the global average2. For the rest of the year, we lived on the world’s natural resources by contracting debts from future generations.

Biodiversity loss continues globally, and not a single international biodiversity target has been fully achieved3,4. In Finland, too, the condition of species and habitats is generally deteriorating5,6. As many as 76% of forest habitat types are endangered, and about 31% of Finland’s threatened species live primarily in forests8. Finland has committed to halt biodiversity loss by 2030 as part of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the European Union’s Biodiversity Strategy10.

However, the current level of public funding is not sufficient to stop biodiversity loss in Finland11,12. Biodiversity loss also poses significant risks for businesses, hence, actions to prevent biodiversity loss also safeguard future business operations as well13.

Key measures to curb biodiversity loss include protecting valuable habitats and restoring those that have already been degraded12,16. To accelerate the sustainability transition and protect biodiversity, the doctoral researchers of the Sustainability Transformation doctoral pilot, together with the Resource Wisdom community JYU.Wisdom, invite all actors to donate a sum they consider suitable to the campaign and support the protection of Finnish nature. Areas acquired through donations become the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation’s property and are permanently protected under the Nature Conservation Act17.
