QS World University Rankings Europe 2026: University of Jyväskylä improves its position in Europe’s best universities list

The University of Jyväskylä improved its position in the QS World University Rankings Europe, rising to 192nd in the latest ranking from 205th last year.

The list comprises only 958 top universities in Europe, and therefore any position on the list is an achievement. Twelve universities from Finland were included on the list, with the University of Jyväskylä ranking sixth among them.

The top-ranked universities were the University of Oxford and Imperial College London and in the UK, as well as ETH Zürich in Switzerland.

The ranking is based on five indicators with different weightings: Research and Discovery 45% (based on academic reputation and citations per faculty), Employer Reputation and Employment Outcomes 20%, Learning Experience 5%, Global Engagement 25%, and Sustainability 5%.

The indicator in which JYU ranked highest was learning experience (faculty student ratio), with a ranking of 46th in Europe. The University’s number of incoming exchange students was also rated positively. Most improved rank was sustainability, from a ranking 247th to 144th
