The Ylistönrinne library hall will be closed for space changes
The room reservation services will contact those who have booked the teaching space to arrange alternative rooms.
New space opens up opportunities for building partnerships
Based on a proposal by Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Mikko Mönkkönen to develop the use of the Ylistönrinne library hall, has Finance and Service Director Päivi Seppä approved the following goals:
- The Ylistönrinne library space will be expanded to serve the entire university's partnership activities, school visits, and science education.
- This is a pilot project that also aims to develop "business lounge" type activities. The project will last at least until the renovation of the Department pf Physics building.
- The space can be used to store materials that serve the needs of partnerships and science education.
- The current use of the space will continue, but changes made to the space will make it even more comfortable.
The first phase of development is the installation of the Green Hydrogen Exhibition in the space.
- The development of the library hall offers a new opportunity to strengthen cooperation with various actors. The pilot project creates an environment where ideas and expertise come together and makes the space even more comfortable. It is excellent that the space will continue to be multi-purpose, more comfortable, and serve current and future needs, says Dean of the Faculty Mikko Mönkkönen.
Green Hydrogen Exhibition supports science education at the university
Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof) is donating the World of Hydrogen exhibition to the LUMA Center in Central Finland. The exhibition has been on display at the Aalto2 museum on this year. When the exhibition ends at the Aalto2 museum at the end of the year, it will become part of the LUMA Center's activities.
- From the very beginning of the hydrogen exhibition project, our goal has been to involve local actors in the development of the exhibition. The LUMA Center is a natural partner for developing the exhibition as part of science education for young people. We hope that the exhibition's new location in the center of science research will bring together researchers, students, and school children to consider the possibilities of hydrogen from different perspectives, says Program Manager Netta Hongisto from Cefmof.
New learning methods strengthen motivation and understanding.
- In our daily work, we have to continuously consider and develop different ways of learning. These include teaching methods that promote student motivation, patience and understanding. The exhibition offers a concrete opportunity to demonstrate the importance of sciences and encourage in the field, explains the director of the Central Finland LUMA Centre Tuomo Äkkinen from University of Jyväskylä.
The exhibition in Ylistönrinne will improve the science education and school visit activities.
- The purpose is to make the exhibition open for all so that people can come to see it anytime. The exhibition will be integrated into the faculty's general science education activities and will be open for various public events such as Applicants’ Day and Researchers’ Night, says Äkkinen.
