Biography

I work as a professor of language education at the Department of teacher education. I currently lead the Research Council of Finland-funded consortium project Learning, Engaging, Participating: Exploring Newly Arrived Migrant Students’ Pathways in Education and Society together with Professor Mervi Kauko, and I serve as Co‑Director of Research Area 4, Fostering Competences of Teachers and Educational Leaders in Learning Communities, within the Educa Flagship. I also serve as Chair of the Board of the Development Centre Opinkirjo.

Research interests

My research areas include language issues in education, culturally and linguistically diverse school communities, professional development of teachers, development of teacher education, and the development of pedagogy that utilizes active learning approaches and multidisciplinarity/phenomenon-based learning.
