Writing and participation in digitalising Finland
Table of contents
Project description
The first phase of the study focuses on finding out which are the most central situations, ways, and functions of writing for adults in today’s Finland. In addition, the study investigates what kind of writing practices and skills are considered important for social and societal participation in Finland in the future.
The second phase of the study investigates what kind of views adults living in Finland have on the contexts, ways and functions of their writing and on the sufficiency of their writing skills. Everyday writing is also observed through functional tasks.
This study is closely connected with the research and development work of the National Certificates of Language Proficiency, especially with the digitalisation process of the subtests for writing. In 2020-2021, approximately 200 adult learners of Finnish living in Finland participated in the pilot test for interactive, digital writing. In addition to new kind of tasks and the writing environment, the pilot study examines how the rating scale affects rating results.
