Adapted Physical Activity & Education
The Adapted Physical Activity & Education research group takes a multidisciplinary approach to examining physical activity, functional capacity and overall well-being in people with various functional difficulties, long-term conditions or special needs at different stages of life. The research focuses on, among other things, motor development, physical functional capacity, participation and equity, the prerequisites for physical activity and learning, and the psychosocial and cognitive factors related to physical activity.

Research group description
The Adapted Physical Activity & Education Research Group is interested in physical, mental and social well-being in people with various functional difficulties or special needs.
Research topics include, for example:
- Motor learning and motor difficulties
- Physical activity and physical functioning among individuals with disabilities
- Psychosocial and cognitive factors related to physical activity
- Physical activity and well-being among individuals with long-term conditions
- Learning support and special educational needs in physical education
- Participation and equity in physical activity
The research group is led by Assistant Professor Mikko Huhtiniemi of Sport Pedagogy and Adapted Physical Activity. The group includes several doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers and senior researchers. In addition, the group collaborates closely with several national and international research groups.
