Researchers at the University of Jyväskylä have discovered a simple way to program synthetic molecules so they can form specific spiral-like structures by embedding instructions directly into their sequence.

Professor Kari Rissanen from the University of Jyväskylä was awarded the A.I. Virtanen Prize in recognition of his significant scientific, educational and social contributions and impact. He received the Prize at a festive event on 10 December 2025.

The Doctoral Researcher Hanan Ibrahim investigated in her dissertation a range of surface reactions on metal-based surfaces using first-principles calculations. Ibrahim will defend on Wednesday 10.12.2025.

MSc Elsa Korhonen’s doctoral dissertation focuses on photocleavable molecules, i.e., photoprotective groups, which release their bound “cargo” through the breakage of a covalent bond upon green light exposure.

Central Finland Mobility Foundation (Cefmof) is donating the World of Hydrogen exhibition to the University of Jyväskylä. Relocating the exhibition to Ylistönrinne opens new opportunities for science education and partnerships.

The focus of the Juuso Valjus's disseration work was on phosphinidene chalcogenides. He studied for example the mechanisms for the formation of various phosphinidene chalcogenide rings.
