Joni Kettunen, founder of Firstbeat, received the University of Jyväskylä’s Puolestapuhuja Award 2025

Firstbeat was founded on research conducted at the Finnish Institute of High-Performance Sport (KIHU) and the University of Jyväskylä. The Jyväskylä University Foundation annually presents the Puolestapuhuja Award to an individual or group that has raised the public profile of the University.

As the CEO of a university-based company, Kettunen promotes the visibility of research knowledge and university education.

The Jyväskylä University Foundation has decided to present the 2025 Puolestapuhuja Award to Joni Kettunen, CEO and doctor of psychology. He is the founder of Firstbeat and leads the company’s two business areas: elite sports and wellbeing.

Joaquín Mones Pritsch from Uruguay is studuing in the the Master's Degree programme in Responsible Management and Business of Sport. Since there were no advanced studies available in his field in Uruguay, he searched for opportunities abroad and ended up in Jyväskylä.
