In Ville Virtanen’s dissertation research, a Multi-Reflection Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer was integrated and commissioned within the University of Jyväskylä Accelerator Laboratory’s Ion-Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility.

In his PhD thesis work, Jouni Ruotsalainen determined the Q values of two double-beta decaying and one beta decaying nucleus. For this purpose, he measured the mass difference of the decay parent and daughter nuclei using the JYFLTRAP double-Penning trap.

JYU has participated in international research that has improved computer models that simulate these initial conditions along with the entire collision dynamics. Research helps reveal how nuclear matter behaves under extreme conditions.

Sonja Kujanpää has developed and commissioned a new laser spectroscopy setup, called RAPTOR at the Accelerator Laboratory. RAPTOR will strengthen the ability to address questions about how atomic nuclei change across the nuclear chart.
