Digital Life Research Group
Overview
Research group description
The Digital Life Research Group at the University of Jyväskylä is a vibrant research community examining how digitalisation shapes contemporary society. The group investigates themes such as digital consumption and marketing, digital literacy, automation, platformisation and robotics, as well as the broader social implications of emerging technologies. Its work seeks to uncover the social, political, cultural and economic dynamics of digital transformation—exploring how digitalisation influences everyday life, well-being, inequalities and the structures and practices of society.
Covering the entire human lifespan, the group’s expertise extends from the experiences of children and young people to those of ageing populations navigating digital environments.
Known for its strong interdisciplinary approach, the group brings together perspectives from sociology, social and public policy, economics, psychology, human–computer interaction and communication studies. This diversity enables the team to tackle complex questions about digital life and to generate insights that help understand both the challenges and opportunities of digitalisation.
