M.Sc. Elina Kauppinen has studied double beta decay and giant resonances in her thesis. Two well-known nuclear models have been employed in the work and further refined to improve the accuracy of theoretical calculations.

Laura Huhta's dissertation work is part of the Centre of Excellence in Quark Matter and focused on the ALICE experiment located at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Huhta will defend her thesis on 5.12.2025.

In October 2025, the Nanoscience Center welcomed the International Advisory Board for a review of the center’s research and teaching activities.

The focus of the Juuso Valjus's disseration work was on phosphinidene chalcogenides. He studied for example the mechanisms for the formation of various phosphinidene chalcogenide rings.

Researchers at CERN have developed a measurement method based on a combination of an electrostatic trap and lasers for studying the chemical properties of rare elements. Mikael Reponen from the Department of Physics has been involved in the research.

The Department of Chemistry has investigated the recycling of rare earth metals from industrial waste and side streams using both 3D filter technology and compounds that can be used in the recovery process as well as in the upcycling of new materials.

An important finding of the Jani Hohti’s doctoral dissertation is that voluntary METSO conservation area network does not safeguard nature values in the best possible way. Hohti defends on 29.11.2025.
