The pre-conference event will feature a guest talk by Dr Nafisa Yeasmin. Dr Yeasmin is the Academic of the year 2019. She works as an Adjunct Professor of the Sociology of Immigration and leads the UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Migration. Her research interests include for example sustainable entrepreneurship development, the socio-economic integration of immigrants in the Arctic, regional development, community sustainability, social inclusion, migration governance, human rights and gender equality. This guest talk will specifically focus on a career perspective shedding light on how research work can be combined with societal activism and sustainability.

In addition to the guest talk, the event will give PhD researchers an opportunity to present and discuss their work in a non-formal setting. The pre-conference also provides an excellent setting for meeting other early career researchers.
